Update on the Accident

Posted by mercedes (aka Nikkie) on May 9, 2009

It has been a week since my accident. I am doing much better but still look like hell. All the bruises on my body are turning every color in the rainbow. I am bruised from my left shoulder down across my chest, my right breast is completely bruised, the bruising continues across my abdemon where the lap belt was, across my lap, both knees from hitting the steering wheel and my right foot from god knows what. Sounds pretty huh?

The guy who hit me has insurance thru’ my same insurance company so makes it easy. Right now my insurance is paying for everything then will switch all bills to his policy once liability is determined.  I received the Police report on Wednesday which makes it clear who was at fault. A witness plus my statement confirmed he ran a red light. Of course I knew he did but it is good someone else, who was driving right behind the guy, saw it all and was good enought to stick around and give his statement. The person who hit me said in his statement that he just looked down for a second at his cellphone on his lap but thought he saw the light green. The police officer informed him that there were witnesses that saw it was a red light. The guy then said ‘I am sorry if I caused the accident’ IF hmmm no IF’s about it. He was cited. I sent the police report to the insurance company so liability is now settled.

My minivan was been offically totaled :( I loved that car. The van was 10 years old with 97,000 miles. The insurance company gave us $4,100 for it. Can’t get much for that but one thing I do know is we can get a good deal on something with dealerships being kinda desperate for sales. We have to go used, we would never buy new even if we had the money.  We are looking at the Chrysler Town & Country with the stow and go seating being as we usually have need for the extra cargo space when we take our goldens with us and it would be nice to not have to pull the third row seat out all the time. Those things are heavy!

Here are some pictures on my van:

The middle picture you can see hubby a little taken aback that the damage.

I am having some difficulty driving. I get pretty anxious but the only way I will get over it is to just do it. I am going to the gym on Monday which has me really anxity ridden being as that is where I was going when I had the accident and it happened right in front of my gym. But again I got to just do it. I need to claim my life back. Time will heal I am sure.

Man, Nikkie, you are so lucky that you weren’t hurt even more than you were. Hopefully, the aches and pains as well as the bruising will go away soon.

  2. Wow, if you’d been hit on the other side, you probably wouldn’t be here right now from the looks of the damage.. But, we’re sure glad you are! ♥

I think you’ll be able to find a decent car with that amount. The car dealerships are really hurting right now!

Geeze, that looks really awfull. I feel sorry for your beautiful car.
Well they say there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and since your bruises have the color of the rainbow, who knows … . :-)

Geez-oh-man Nikkie! This is what I get for not keeping more current with blog posts! I had no idea you were in an accident, much less one as bad as this one appears to be. I’m so sorry about it but just super glad that you’re alright with the exception of the soreness and bruising of course.
It’ll go away soon my dear, so fear not. I know that for many people that have a car accident they always find it scary to get back behind the wheel….but you simply cannot let that happen. Driving is a very important aspect of life as you know. And to fear it will only bring on more negativity, and I’m sure you don’t want that.

Like they say, (whoever they are), ya gotta get back up on that horse and ride! Good thing the fella has insurance yeah? And the 4100 dollars can make a real nice down payment on a new car….and especially in today’s automobile dilemma. These dealers are looking to make the good deals just to move the cars off the lot. And if you like Chrysler vehicles and can find one of the dealers in your area that were on the hit list and got the notice that their contract won’t be renewed by Chrysler, and that they can’t give the cars back, they’re going to be doing some pretty crazy things to get those cars and minivans to go away! The Chevy dealers that got the same “dear John” letter that the Chrysler people got were given a year to sell their inventory and to be able to order parts. So they’ll also be looking to do some pretty nice wheelin-and-dealin!

Again hon…so sorry to read about your accident but am real glad that you’re alright. Judging by the photos it sure looks like it could have been a lot worse….especially if the guy had plowed you on the drivers side!!
